The biggest benefit of being engaged in my kids lives is (I hope) a LONG-TERM real relationship. I don't want to just be close to them now... I want to be close to them when they are adults as well. I don't think it should be like those old TV shows. Like you said kids teach us as much about ourselves as we teach them about things.
